New York Microsoft founder Bill Gates plans to donate $20 billion to his own foundation. He is concerned about the suffering caused by the pandemic, among other things, and hopes he can increase the foundation’s budget to do more good, he said in a statement.
Bill Gates wants to donate 20 billion dollars (around 19.95 billion euros) to his foundation. Gates wrote in a post on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation website on Wednesday that she could increase her annual spending to alleviate the massive suffering in the world. As recently as June, Warren Buffett, head of investment firm Berkshire Hathaway, gave the foundation $3.1 billion. Depending on the daily stock market valuation, the institution has a capital of almost 70 billion dollars – and is one of the largest or even the largest foundation in the world. Buffett served on the Board of Trustees of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for many years.

Gates wrote that he was concerned about the significant suffering caused by global setbacks such as the Covid-19 pandemic. He also hopes for more donations from other rich and privileged. The foundation wants to increase its annual budget by 50 percent to around nine billion dollars by 2026 compared to the time before Corona. With the associated increased spending, she wants to invest in education, poverty alleviation, achieving gender equality and research to end preventable diseases. This has fallen by the wayside in recent years.
