Biggest bushfire in Cyprus in 40 years

Forest fire in Cyprus

This is the largest fire since 1974. Four people were killed. Cyprus has turned to the international community for help.

A powerful forest fire is raging in Cyprus. The first victims have already appeared. President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiades named the largest fire in the past few decades.

“This is a tragedy. This is the largest fire since 1974. Lives, real estate, land and forests have been destroyed. The government will immediately help the victims and the families of the victims. We will not leave anyone behind,” the head of state wrote on Facebook.

It is noted that as a result of the rampant elements in the Larnaca region, four people were killed. Presumably these are Egyptian citizens who came to Cyprus to work in agriculture.

The fire started last Saturday. The situation is complicated by intense heat, the temperature reaches +40 degrees.

Local media reported that a 67-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the fire.

Cyprus asked for international assistance to eliminate the fire.

The day before it was reported that in Canada a fire in a private house killed seven people… The victims of the fire were a 38-year-old man, two women (35 and 38 years old) and four children between the ages of four and 12.

We add that in Prague there was major fire in the exhibition center… The smoke from the fire could be seen tens of kilometers away. Residents of the area were advised not to open windows.
