Biden for Ukraine’s NATO membership – Zelensky

Meeting of Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Joe Biden in Washington on September 1, 2021

The US President personally supported Ukraine’s entry into the Alliance, but noted that it depends not only on him, the Ukrainian leader said.

During a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the head of the White House Joe Biden in Washington, the American leader said that Ukraine should be in the North Atlantic Alliance. Zelensky told about this in interview CNN broadcast on Sunday 12 September.

“He said:“ I think that you should be there (in NATO – ed.), But it depends not only on me, ”the Ukrainian leader quoted his American colleague as saying.

Zelensky also voiced his answer to Biden.

“I know, Mr. President, but your decision will make the path to NATO (for Ukraine – ed.) Shorter,” the head of the Ukrainian state said and added that the discussion of this issue lasted about 20-30 minutes.

In addition, when asked by a journalist whether Zelensky was worried that the United States would leave Ukraine without support, the president advised against comparing Ukraine and Afghanistan.

“I don’t think we can compare this – Ukraine and Afghanistan. Ukraine is not as dependent on the United States as Afghanistan was,” the head of state stressed.

We will remind, during the YES Brainstorming Forum 2021 in Kiev, Vladimir Zelensky said that Ukraine is ready to become a NATO member and without it “the Alliance will lose”.

Ukraine will not ask the United States for status outside NATO
