Prime Minister Trudeau– White House spokesman Jen Saki said at the Biden administration’s first briefing on the 20th (local time) that “President Biden is scheduled to speak with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau” and “we will discuss important relations with Canada.” A spokesman for Saki said the two leaders will also conduct discussions on the’Keystone XL Project’. The Keystone XL project is an 1,800-kilometer-long pipeline that connects Alberta, Canada and Texas, USA. The Canadian local government has invested $1.1 billion in this project. Former President Donald Trump gave the project a permit, but biden, who put forward an eco-friendly policy, signed an executive order to cancel the project that day, the relationship between the two countries became gritty.
Leaders of each country also congratulated the inauguration of President Biden on the same day and delivered a message hoping to strengthen relations.
“The United States is back,” said European Union Commissioner Ursula Ponderrayen via Twitter. “Europe is ready to breathe new life into its precious alliance.” British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said, “President Biden looks forward to working with the new US government.” Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said on a tweet on the morning of the 21st, “Congratulations on the inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris,” and “Japan and the United States are allies formed by strong ties that share universal values.”
Russia urged, through a spokesman for the presidential office, to extend the new strategic arms reduction agreement (New START), which expires next month.
China also expressed its hopes of improving US-China relations through Chinese Ambassador Chui Tiankai.
