And that not vaccinating leads to problems. “We have seen for several weeks in a row that municipalities in the North Veluwe are leading the top lists when it comes to infection figures,” epidemiologist Caroline Timmerman of the GGD Noord- en Oost-Gelderland told De Stentor. In many cases, these are municipalities where parts of the population are skeptical about the jab. “Where the vaccination rate is the lowest, we see more infections,” she confirms.
The corona figures rose in Veluwe municipalities such as Elburg, Nunspeet, Putten and Ermelo. Staphorst has been the national leader in corona infections for a few days. Municipalities such as Neder-Betuwe, Veenendaal, Scherpenzeel and Woudenberg give the same picture. At the GGDs, they take into account that the virus will continue to thrive in areas with a lower vaccination coverage. The virus may also live there.
