Anterselva / Antholz has been hosting the Biathlon World Cup since its first year in 1978. The Biathlon World Championships have also been held here six times. Biathlon at the Winter Olympics in 2026 will take place in the popular northern Italian resort.

Anterselva concludes the January biathlon program every year, the Italian World Cup event is known for its high altitude (1600 meters above sea level), great winter conditions and wild fans. The pre-Olympic World Cup event begins on Thursday, January 20, with the men’s endurance race, with the women’s individual on the program on Friday and the mass start and relay races on the weekend. Endurance races will be run only for the second time of the season, the first in Östersund was dominated by Markéta Davidová among women.

The Norwegian men’s elite, which missed the previous event in Ruhpolding, should return to the World Cup competition in Anterselva. On the other hand, the Swedes will not participate, the leader of the World Championships Norka Marte Olsbu Roiseland will also be missing.

Of the Czech team, Markéta Davidová is currently the best, occupying the ninth place in the overall ranking of the series, and Jessica Jislová is ten places behind her. Michal Krčmář dropped to 33rd place in Ruhpolding, and Milan Žemlička, who won his last ticket to Beijing, will also get his chance in Anterselva.

After the races in Italy, the biathlon elite will move to the venue of the Olympic Games, where a mixed relay will take place on 5 February. The World Cup will continue in early March in Kontiolahti, Finland.
