BFMTV apologizes for slippage during Chinese tribute to coronavirus dead

BFMTV apologized to viewers on Saturday and provisionally “indented” a reporter who made “totally inappropriate” remarks during the broadcast of the national tribute in China to victims of the coronavirus.

BFMTV and BFM Business columnist Emmanuel Lechypre then presented his mea culpa for having made these comments, which sparked thousands of reactions on social networks.

“This morning during the broadcast of the tribute to the victims in China, I allowed myself a totally inappropriate expression, thinking that the microphones were closed. It was totally inappropriate, I am very sorry for it and I renew my apologies”, he said in particular on the news channel.

The chain and its director Marc-Olivier Fogiel also apologized “following the involuntary broadcast of remarks totally out of place on set this morning”.

Journalist Emmanuel Lechypre will be “withdrawn (…) for a period of one week” on the airwaves of BFMTV and BFM Business, announced in the evening BFMTV in a press release, without specifying whether this measure would be accompanied by sanctions .
