Béziers: Suez relies on the drones asset to monitor the health of its networks

Suez ensures both the safety of its agents and the good health of the wastewater networks.

This is a first in the Hérault. In partnership with Instadrone, member of the ITS Fusion network and located in Servian, the Biterroise agency of Suez began to use, since Monday, November 29, drones to inspect the city’s wastewater networks.

The operation is spread over three days, during which the company intends to explore 2 km, in very specific areas. “It’s revolutionary. It allows us to save time, and not to endanger our agents“, argues Marie Luneau, deputy director of Suez Béziers.

Drones can access tight networks for us without any hassle

Until now, employees were forced to go down into the networks themselves to check that everything was in order, which required the mobilization of firefighters in the event of an accident once underground. “Sometimes the networks are quite narrow, and it is difficult to get there, explains Christophe Maurel, responsible for operating the sanitation networks. The drones have different diameters, and can therefore access them for us without any problem “.

Thanks to these flying machines, piloted by professionals from the Instadrone company under the watchful eye of Cédric Botella the CEO, networks are better inspected. “Not only can we watch in real time what is happening in the pipes, but in addition, the drone records everything, which allows us to recheck upstream whether everything was really up to standard or not.“, adds Marie Luneau. Technology evolves, Suez too.
