Beware of watermelons – contain pesticides

The discounter Aldi-Nord is calling back mini watermelons. The reason: residues of the plant protection product Oxamyl were detected in a sample.

The food retailer Aldi-Nord announces on its website that it has taken mini-watermelons from its supplier Catman North GmbH out of the fruit displays.

These are “mini watermelons, class 1” from Spain with the so-called GGN or identification number 4052852232968.

Oxamyl: “highly toxic” and “acutely toxic”

In the course of self-examinations, residues of the plant protection product oxamyl were detected in a sample, the company said. According to Oxfam Germany, the pesticide is highly toxic and is classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as acutely toxic.

As a precaution, Aldi-Nord therefore advises not to eat mini watermelons that have already been bought and to bring them back to one of the Aldi branches. The purchase price will be refunded, says the discounter.
