Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President of the United States of America (USA) Joe Biden insisted on putting on body if Taiwan was attacked by China. He said the US was committed to it.
“Yes,” he told reporters at his latest press conference at the White House, Thursday (10/22/2021) local time. “We have a commitment to that.”
This is not the first time Biden has done this. He made a similar statement during an interview last August with the media ABC.
He stressed that the US will definitely defend key allies, including Taiwan. He called it a “Holy Commitment” to defending NATO allies such as Canada and Europe, as well as Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
There has been no official comment from China on this matter. However, several times China, which considers Taiwan part of its province, has often protested against Western actions against the island.
In a commentary, Chinese leader Xi Jinping also confirmed that the reunification of the two regions will definitely be realized. He even warned against foreign interference.
“The complete reunification of our country will and can be realized,” Xi said AFP two weeks ago.
In early October, China had sent 150 fighter jets to storm the air defense identification zone (ADIZ). This is the largest in the history of the conflict between the two.
