Between 40 and 70% of humanity will be infected with the coronavirus in the year, warns a Harvard researcher

Over the next year, between 40 and 70 percent of humans will be infected with the coronavirus, epidemiologist Marc Lipsitch of Harvard University told The Atlantic magazine.

Epidemiologist Marc Lipsitch, of the American university of Harvard, gave his vision as for the propagation of the coronavirus around the world and as for the number of people who could touch it, announces the magazine The Atlantic in an article of 24 February.

The researcher predicts that over the next year, between 40 and 70% of the world’s population will be infected with Covid-19. But, he says, that doesn’t mean that everyone will have serious consequences.

“It is likely that many will suffer from a mild illness or be asymptomatic,” he said. It’s like flu that is dangerous for people with chronic health conditions or the elderly. In most cases, medical care is unnecessary, the magazine said.

In addition, as the specialist has indicated, the coronavirus cannot be “brought under control”.

“I think the likely result is that it [le coronavirus, ndlr] ultimately will not be brought under control. ”

More than 2,700 dead in China

The epidemic that broke out in central China in December has already peaked in the country, where it has infected some 78,000 people, more than 2,700 of whom have died, Chinese authorities said on Wednesday (February 26th).

It affects more and more countries, including in Europe: the Covid-19 disease now concerns, apart from China, more than thirty states where it has made more than 40 deaths and contaminated around 2,500 individuals.
