Results of the monthly business survey in industry for May indicate an improvement, on a monthly basis, in economic activity following the fall recorded in March and April, according to Bank Al-Maghrib . Production would have increased and the capacity utilization rate (TUC) would have stood at 56% after 47% in April, in relation to its increase of 21 percentage points to 46% in “mechanical and metallurgical” and 13 points to 66% in “chemistry and parachemistry”, said BAM, noting that the TUC in other industries remained unchanged from month to month.
Sales, on the other hand, would have declined both on the local and foreign markets, underlines this opinion survey carried out with a representative sample comprising nearly 400 industrial companies, noting that orders would have stagnated and the backlog is said to have been below normal.
By branch of activity, production would have increased in “chemistry and parachemistry”, stagnated in “agro-food” and in “mechanical and metallurgical” and decreased in “textile and leather” and in “electrical and electronic “. For their part, sales would have declined in all industries except “food” where they would have rather stagnated. According to the survey, the maintenance of global orders at the same level as the month of April covers an increase in “agro-food” and in “mechanical and metallurgical” and a decrease in “textile and leather” and in “electrical and electronic”.
For the next three months, business leaders expect an increase in production and sales in all branches except “mechanical and metallurgical” where they anticipate a drop in sales, according to the same source, which also points out that 24% of employers declare that they have no visibility as to the future development of production and 30% as regards sales.
