Bethlehem light: Even a writer can be exhausted. Karel Šejnoha (Zdeněk Svěrák) will probably have to hang the craft on a nail, but its heroes are impatient and want to continue the story. They come out of Sheikh’s head and literally come to life. And then there’s his wife, Helena (Daniela Kolářová), who would like him to leave his writing on his old knees and start devoting himself to it already. Bioscop released the film Bethlehem Light by Zdeněk and Jan Svěrák.

Every new film by Zdeněk and Jana Svěrákových is usually a big event that is talked about long before the premiere. General school (1991), Kolja (1996), Dark blue world (2001), Returnable bottles (2007) or even a memory story On the stubble barefoot (2017) did not miss hundreds of thousands of spectators. How did their eighth joint feature film turn out – Bethlehem light?

He also involved his two sons in the production. „Unfortunately, I am disappointed. It didn’t seem film-attractive to me. Fictional literary characters crawl into the author’s life without any major plot context, and all this intertwines with the author’s “real relationship” with the woman. I think that Daniela Kolářová and Zdeněk Svěrák unfortunately have nothing to give in film,Enspígl lamented.
The reviewer, hidden under the nickname Rimsy, is also irreconcilable. On Moviezone.cz website has long been dedicated to Czech films and is famous for sacrificing himself for audiences and suffering the weakest pieces. Now he writes that this is the worst film by Jan Svěrák, who trumps even after the stubble barefoot with his helplessness. “On top of that, however, it adds unbalanced, most of the time passing attempts at humor and overlap. In the role of an aging writer, Zdeněk Svěrák gropes in the modern world and his own marriagebut for the viewer it results in a hardly believable minimum of entertainment and wisdom.“
