Bethesda was almost part of Electronic Arts

It’s perhaps the biggest news of the past decade when it comes to gaming; Microsoft has ZeniMax Media, parent company of Bethesda Games Studios, Arkane Studios and id Software, among others taken over for a klein amount of $ 7.5 billion in cash.

A huge amount for something where the public does not really know exactly what will happen to these studios in the future. Where Phil Spencer previously spoke about discussing the games one by one to which platforms it will come, the CEO of Microsoft wants the games to be made as widely available as possible.

In addition, there is also a deal between the PlayStation 5 and two games from Zenimax Media, namely Deathloop in GhostWire: Tokyo. These games come for a limited period of time exclusive to the PlayStation 5, after which it should only appear on the Xbox Series X / S after that period. Although Phil Spencer has said to honor this, this can of course change just like that.

Yet it could have turned out very differently for ZeniMax Media and with that also the studios that are underneath such as Bethesda, so late Bloomberg know in an article. They indicate that ZeniMax Media Chairman and CEO Robert Altman had been working on the sale of ZeniMax for several years and that a deal had almost been struck with Electronic Arts, which, simply put, would mean that Bethesda would operate under the banner of Electronic. Doctor would have continued.

Although we all know by now that those cases never came to an end, it has also not become entirely clear why that deal exactly fell off. Although of course it doesn’t matter much anymore. However, one question remains for me. Would you rather have Bethesda been part of Electronic Arts, Microsoft or maybe something completely different? Let us know in the comments!
