Best time to see the peak of the Ariteid meteor shower today

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Institute of Aeronautics and Space (EIGHT) reported peak Arietid meteor shower happened on Monday (7/6). The Arietid Meteor Shower is a meteor shower whose initial appearance is located in the constellation Aries, precisely near the star Botein (Delta Arietis).

LAPAN said the meteor shower was the only meteor shower that could be witnessed during the day.

The Arietid Meteor Shower is active from May 14 to June 24, 2021. The peak occurs on June 7 with an intensity of 50 meteors per hour when at the zenith, so for the Indonesian region the intensity is reduced to 19-20 meteors per hour.

The peak of the Arietid meteor shower can be seen from the East-Northeast before astronomical dawn, culminating in the North at 10:00 local time and setting in the West-Northwest at 16.00 local time.

No one knows for sure where the Arietid meteoroid came from, but the meteor shower is thought to have come from the dust remnants of the asteroid Icarus and the periodic comet 96P/Machholz.

Launch Earthsky, the Arietid meteoroid struck the upper atmosphere of Earth at a speed of 39 km/s (87,000 mph).

The Arietid Meteor Shower has been observed on radar since 1947. Annual meteor showers such as the Arietid occur when Earth passes through icy debris left by comets.

The Arietid Meteor Shower would be one of the strongest meteor showers of the year, had it not been so close to the sun.
