Although it can affect anyone, panda eyes are most common in older people, have a genetic predisposition to the condition for periorbital hyperpigmentation, are from non-white ethnic groups because darker skin tones are more prone to hyperpigmentation around the eye area.
Although fatigue As the most logical explanation for this condition, there are a number of factors that can cause panda eyes. In most cases, panda eyes are nothing to worry about and do not require medical attention.
Adapt Healthline, Saturday (14/11), here are a number of factors that cause panda eyes.
1. Dehydration
Dehydration is a common cause of panda eyes. When the body doesn’t receive the right amount of water, the skin under the eyes starts to look dull and the eyes appear sunken. This is due to its proximity to the underlying bone.
2. Fatigue
Excessive sleep, extreme fatigue, or staying up late several hours after normal bedtime can cause dark circles to form under the eyes. Lack of sleep can cause the skin to become dull and pale, which can reveal dark tissue and blood vessels under the skin.
Lack of sleep can also cause fluid to build up under the eyes, causing them to appear puffy. As a result, the panda eyes you see are actually swollen lids.
3. Age
Natural aging is a common cause of panda eyes. As we get older, the skin becomes thinner. You also lose the fat and collagen needed to maintain skin elasticity. When this happens, the dark blood vessels under the skin become more visible causing the area under the eyes to darken.
4. Eye Strain
Staring at a television or computer screen can cause significant eye strain. This tension can cause the blood vessels around the eye to dilate. As a result, the skin around the eyes can darken.
5. Allergies
Allergic reactions and dry eyes can trigger panda eyes. When you experience an allergic reaction, your body releases histamine in response to harmful bacteria. Apart from causing uncomfortable symptoms including itching, redness, and swelling of the eyes, histamine also causes blood vessels to dilate and become more visible under the skin.
Allergies can also increase the urge to rub and scratch the itchy skin around the eyes. This action can worsen symptoms, causing inflammation, swelling, and damaged blood vessels. This can produce dark shadows under the eyes.
6. Excessive Sunlight Display
Excessive sun exposure can cause the body to overproduce melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. Too much sun, especially for the eyes, can cause pigmentation in the surrounding skin to darken.

Family history also plays a role in developing panda eyes. This can be an inherited trait that is seen from childhood, and may worsen with age or slowly disappear. Other predisposing medical conditions such as thyroid disease can also cause panda eyes.
