The team reports that the contract with the basketball player is for one season.
Last season, as a part of the “Ventspils” team in the Estonian-Latvian Joint Championship (LIBL), Bērziņš scored an average of 12 points in 25 games, won six balls under baskets, as well as returned 2.5 assists.
Meanwhile, in the FIBA European Cup, at the expense of a Latvian, an average of 11 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists. Ventpils residents concluded the international tournament in the quarterfinals.
“I’m glad I can join the Zelona Gura team, which I’ve only heard about the best. The team has great fans, good coaches, and the city itself is beautiful,” the club quotes as a basketball player. “Last season I saw some team games and the atmosphere in the arena was great. I can’t just wait to see that energy on my own.”
In Poland, the championship ended prematurely in mid-March due to a coronavirus pandemic, with Stelmet Enea winning the title. The second place was won by Lublin’s “Start”, in which Mārtiņš Laksa played, but Roland Freimanis Wloclavek’s “Anwil” took the position below.
Until now, Bērziņš has developed his basketball career in Latvia, playing in the ranks of “Valmiera”, “VEF Rīga” and “Ventspils” teams. He twice became the Latvian champion in the Riga club. In 2016, he went to Italy as a legionnaire, where he joined the A-series basketball club Capo d’Orlando “Betaland”, concluding a contract for two seasons.
However, already in the first year, the Latvian basketball player suffered a serious knee injury, which forced him to skip for several months. Bērziņš returned to the field at the end of the same season, playing the season to the end, but later the paths of both sides parted.
Bērziņš was one of the leaders of the Latvian U-20 national team in the 2013 European Championship, when the team won silver medals, and was included in the symbolic top five of the competition. The basketball player was later also a stable player of the Latvian adult national team and was included in the lists of candidates.
He was also included in the list of Latvian national team candidates for the final tournament of the 2017 European Championship, but the basketball player was injured in the preparation phase, which prevented him from participating in the tournament.
