Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri told Al-Jumhuriya newspaper: “The continuation of the vacuum in the presidency of the republic cannot be tolerated for a very few weeks. At this point it is no longer what it was then, rather it is a mess.”
Berri underlined that “consent is the obligatory step for the election of the President of the Republic, and without this consent the spiral of emptiness will continue, and the country will pay for it”.
Berri stressed that his suspension of his dialogue initiative does not mean that he will remain idle ahead of the presidential election as it is at the moment, in a cycle of complexity and obstructionism, and his capture in an empty circle whose cost is exorbitant for the Lebanon rather has given what can be described as a time slot that is capped at the end of the year. interest of Lebanon, and if the situation remains in the circle of emptiness, then the initiative will certainly be regained and everyone will be faced with their responsibilities which require sincere collaboration to strengthen Lebanon and get it out of this tunnel.
