Christoph H. * (23) from the canton of Bern stands in front of his beloved Audi with his arms crossed. Annoyed, frustrated, worried. The apprentice had warned 200 people about speed cameras. He meant well – and now has to pay 1180 francs for it. “I can hardly believe it. I have to work for two months for these buses, ”he says bent to BLICK.

The story begins in June 2018. Christoph H. is included in a Whatsapp group, as he reports. “For example, you wrote in if there was a traffic jam somewhere or if you had just seen a radar.”
–
The budding media specialist warns group members about speed cameras a total of 38 times. “In Austria and Germany it is also published on the radio. Accordingly, it wasn’t even clear to me that it was illegal in Switzerland, ”explains the 23-year-old.

He is one of 200 reported
In February a year ago, the Whatsapp group was exposed – because of ravages. A 19-year-old and a 20-year-old man crash into a speed control on the A6 motorway between Lyss BE and Schönbühl BE.
–
For the investigation, the police confiscated the cell phones of the hooligans, and this is how the illegal chats reach the authorities. 200 radar detectors are identified and displayed, including Christoph H.

Christoph H. thinks buses are too high
He is now aware that he has made a mistake. But the trainee thinks the fine is way too high: “It’s not about paying nothing.” But: “A colleague of mine wrote a warning three times and got away with 40 francs. And now I’m supposed to pay over 1000 Stutz. ” He would simply lack the financial means for that.
–
That is why the Bernese objected to the penalty order – in the hope that the judges of the regional court in Thun BE would show mercy because of his low apprentice wages.
–
Forgot the court date
Too bad: he forgot the hearing on Wednesday and did not show up without excuse. «I went to vocational school and just imposed it. I thought the appointment was only a week later, ”he says to BLICK. Now he only has a few days left to defend himself – otherwise the learner will definitely have to pay the hefty fine.
–
Christoph H. is guaranteed to no longer warn of speed cameras. He has learned his lesson. Nevertheless, he thinks public radar warnings actually make sense: “I am of the opinion that this serves general safety in road traffic.”
