Berlin String Quartet “Artemis” will perform in Liepaja and Jurmala – Classical – Music – Culture +

The quartet will perform on October 2 in the concert series “Personally” of Liepāja Concert Hall “Lielais dzintars” and on October 3 in Dzintari Small Hall at the opening of the Autumn Chamber Music Festival. The concerts will feature the 15th string quartet of this year’s grand jubilee Ludwig van Beethoven and the premiere of Peter Wask’s Sixth String Quartet.

Beethoven’s 15th String Quartet focuses on both accumulated mastery and human experience. Pēteris Vasks’ new work – the Sixth String Quartet – is an autobiographical review of the experience. Its four parts herald farewell, looking back, leaving and meeting – also with Beethoven’s own transcendental music.

Vineta Sareika’s sonorous violin, made by Guadeloupe in 1793, has been coloring the string quartet Artemis since 2012. After winning several international competitions and entering the prestigious Queen Elizabeth International Violin Competition in 2009, the violinist began a promising career in Brussels as a soloist and chamber musician, as well as an orchestra concertmaster.

“I am glad that after a break of several years, I will be able to play in Latvia with my beloved Artemis Quartet in a new composition,” says Vineta Sareika. “This special time has taught us how invaluable it is to be able to play music together, address the hearts of listeners and express our emotions. Both Beethoven and Wax have placed a rich emotional palette, tremendous intensity and transcendental beauty in their opuses. ”

The Artemis Quartet’s international career began in 1996, winning the prestigious ARD competition in Germany and shortly afterwards triumphing in the string quartet competition Premio Paolo Borciani in Italy. The quartet has given concerts in Europe, the USA, Asia, South America and Australia, including performances at prestigious concert halls and major festivals. Since 2004, the Artemis String Quartet has been forming its own chamber music cycle in the chamber hall of the Berlin Philharmonic, since 2011 together with the Belcea Quartet in the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and since 2016/2017. Concert Season – Prince Regent ‘s Theater in Munich.

Since 2005, the Artemis String Quartet has been working exclusively with the Virgin record house, now known as Erato. Several of the quartet’s many recordings have received significant awards, including several German Record Critics Awards, Gramophone and Diapason d’Or awards, and four ECHO Klassik awards. The recording of all Beethoven quartets in 2011 was honored with the prestigious French award “Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros”.

The premiere of the documentary film “Artemis: The Neverending Quartet” in Latvia will take place on October 7 at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. The half-hour film is a surprisingly open, touching direct and passionate documentary about humanity and choices; for stage partners who are supposedly not your family, but at the same time are more than just colleagues and friends; for the damage demanded by the finest forms of making music, as well as for the moments of happiness it is able to provide. Before the film there will be an opportunity to meet Vineta Sareika.

The concerts of the autumn chamber music festival will take place from October 2 to 17.
