Bergen is tightening up – several measures affect children and young people

– There is no cheerful message when spring has come to Bergen, but we have to do something now, said City Councilor Roger Valhammer (Labor) when he told on Monday about the tightening in Bergen.

He says that a lot of infection in Bergen happens in private gatherings and private homes, and that they therefore feel compelled to tighten. From midnight, there will now be a restriction of private gatherings to two people in addition to their own household.

It is nevertheless permitted that a household consisting of one or two persons may be visited by several as long as the visitors belong to one other household. Up to ten people in total can be gathered provided that the distance requirement of 1 meter can be complied with.

Affects children and young people

Several of the measures affect children and young people in the municipality. From midnight, indoor sports and leisure activities for children and young people under the age of 20 will be stopped.

Outdoor sports and leisure activities for children and young people are allowed.

In addition, schools and kindergartens where there are ongoing outbreaks are set at the red level.

The municipality has also decided that swimming pools, water parks, hotel pools and the like will be kept closed. The same applies to amusement parks, gaming halls, playgrounds, bowling alleys and similar places with activities aimed at children and young people.

Duty to wear a face mask

In addition, it is now also a duty to use a face mask when it is not possible to keep at least one meter away.

– These are tough roofs, especially those aimed at children and young people. This is not something we want to do. But we do it to prevent a major shutdown, says Valhammer.

– It is difficult to shield children and young people, when it is precisely among children and young people that the spread of infection occurs. Then we also have to introduce measures, even though we know it will have a negative effect. It is a long way for the city council to do this, says city councilor for the elderly, health and volunteering, Beate Husa.

Worried about party noise

Visiting restrictions are being introduced for short-term nursing homes. The municipality states that two regular visitors can visit residents up to twice a week, and visits must be arranged in advance.

The new measures apply from midnight and for two weeks, until 3 May.

Valhammer also added that he was concerned about the reports of party riots and reports that people who drop distance and rules.

– If this continues, then we will have to put this part of the reopening on pause, Valhammer says.
