July Mak’s father is among the first five at CHSLD Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci to have died after contracting COVID-19.

“It’s a shame because, my father, he was at home, he was careful, and we brought the pandemic to him,” she said.

She believes her father, Paul Mak, would always be by her side if the visitors who brought the virus into the residence had at least worn a mask.

“A mask is very important. We don’t know if that will help, but at least we won’t kill other people. We don’t know if we are a carrier or not. He’s an invisible killer, and my father, unfortunately, was unprotected, ”says July Mak.

For his part, Olivier Nguyen wishes to remind those who believe they are invincible that the virus can be fatal, even for people who are healthy.

“It’s true that it affects a lot of people who are vulnerable, but it also affected my father, a fairly young man of 48 who was very active. He played sports three times a week, and COVID-19 still took him with him, ”he says.

Her father, Thuong Nguyen, was an orderly at the Jean-Talon Hospital in Montreal. He died in the last few weeks after contracting COVID-19. Although in good health, he developed serious complications, including bleeding in the lungs.

“People who believe they are truly invincible, who believe that their immune system is strong enough, we must remember that we are not yet sure enough and some of everything that is happening in connection with COVID-19”, puts on guard Olivier Nguyen.
