We had known for a while that it was going to happen: the Bentley Mulsanne says goodbye. The British do this with a special and very exclusive version.
At the end of last year, Bentley presented the new Flying Spur, which meant the end for the Mulsanne. Management also immediately announced a farewell version of the flagship. That special edition is now rolling off the production line in Crewe.
Considered
The decision to stop the Mulsanne is well-considered, according to the manufacturer. There is a great demand for the other models from their portfolio. In addition, the Mulsanne is already very old (the model is already ten years old), so that it simply cannot compete with the new Flying Spur and Rolls-Royce Phantom 8.
When Bentley had made the decision, it immediately indicated that it would wave the Mulsanne a special edition. That car is now leaving the factory gates. Under the name Bentley Mulsanne Speed ’6.75 Edition by Mulliner’, another 30 copies of the luxury limousine will be released. The model is basically a Mulsanne Speed.
The number 6.75 naturally stands for the legendary 6.75-liter V8 from Bentley. This monumental power source is now also buried in this Mulsanne carriage, because Bentley says goodbye to this wonderful couple king after 60 years. Also in this special Mulsanne that engine delivers 537 hp and 1100 Nm, just like in the ‘normal’ Mulsanne Speed.
Subtle hints
This exclusive Mulliner edition honors the power source through various placards in and on the car. But there are much more subtle hints that point to the legendary bike. The buttons for the ventilation grilles are, for example, in the form of the oil cap. The dials of the clocks and meters also show a blueprint of the V8.
The grille and the Flying B on this limited edition come in black. Other details, such as the front air vents and door strips, can be sprayed by the customer in a desired color. The intake manifolds of the 6.75-liter V8 also have a black finish. The placard on the bike bears the name and scribble of CEO Adrian Hallmark. At regular Mulsannes there is the name and signature of the professional who was responsible for manual construction of the famous V8 engine.
Successor Bentley Mulsanne
A direct successor to the Mulsanne is not planned, but Bentley has other plans for the future. The English car manufacturer is currently developing an über SUV with which the prestigious brand wants to nestle in the Top Luxury segment. The manufacturer does not yet want to indicate whether it will be a traditional SUV. The model is still above the Bentayga in the range. With the addition of this new top model, Bentley has sufficient SUVs, a smaller model is excluded. Double grief for the time being by the farewell of an important model and a legendary engine. A total of 7,300 Mulsannes rolled out of the factory in Crewe, UK.
