The American tour, which should lead to the US Open (August 30 – September 12), began for Benoît Paire with a victory in the first round of the Atlanta Open on Tuesday evening. The French won in three sets (7-5, 6-7 [2], 6-4) against the Japanese Yasutaka Uchiyama (120th). Having failed to break his opponent in the second set, Paire was embroiled in a tie-break which he badly negotiated. But he recovered in the last set, far from the player who gave up too quickly at the start of the year, to win. Paire will be opposed in the next round to the Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori (75th).
