Bennett knocks Démare: “Finally things are good for our team” | Tour of Wallonia 2020

After 2 sprinters stages, the 3rd stage in the Tour of Wallonia seemed like food for the climber types, especially with the double climb of the Côte de Cheratte in the final.

That climb also marked the end of leader Caleb Ewan, after an impulse from Ineos rider Narvaez. Stybar, Van Avermaet and defending champion Vliegen followed. The foursome had a 20 second lead together.

That seemed reassuring, but Arnaud Démare was able to find a few team mates in the chase. They joined forces with Philippe Gilbert, employed by Degenkolb.

The battle between the leaders and the pursuers lasted until the final kilometer, but then Van Avermaet and co had to put themselves right. In the end, Sam Bennett took full advantage of the work of the teams of Démare and Degenkolb, who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Tomorrow Démare will be the leader in the final stage, which is even more demanding with a paternoster of climbs.
