Luca Hänni (25) seems to have impressed the large canton with his fourth place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. With Benjamin Dolic (22), the German television broadcaster NDR is sending a Swiss artist into the ESC race this year: the singer with Slovenian roots comes from Zuchwil SO.
Dolic is no stranger: in 2018 he sang “The Voice of Germany” to the finals, secured second place there and sang in the final selection with the Swedish pop star Zara Larsson (22). Previously, he worked as a cashier at McDonalds Solothurn. «I really enjoy it. Let’s see if I can still work there after ‹The Voice›, said the blond boy at the time. After all, he must be able to take orders, not just autograph requests.

Already wanted to compete for Slovenia
Now he is entering an even larger stage with his song “Violent Thing” at the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam (Netherlands). The entry was determined by a 100-member audience panel and a 20-member jury of experts – similar to last year at Luca Hänni. Ben Dolic, as the artist calls himself from now on, can hardly believe his luck: «When I got the news that I had won the juries, I was completely overwhelmed. For me, participating in the Eurovision Song Contest for Germany is a dream come true, »he says. “I think we have a perfect song for the ESC and I will give everything for Germany.”

Around 200 million people watch each year when the world’s largest music competition takes place. The event is even broadcast in Australia – and since 2015 the country has also been actively participating in the contest. For Dolic, his ESC participation has made his dream come true. In 2016 he wanted to get into the ring for his home country Slovenia, but retired in the preliminary decision.
