At the end of his youth, Ben Haeffner, the wrestler from KSV Germania Krefeld, won the bronze medal at the German Junior Championships in Rimbach. “The joy about this medal is enormous. This is a nice way to end my youth. It’s extremely important, ”says the 19-year-old, who went to Malaga in Spain immediately after winning the medal. There is now a vacation with some friends from the Krefeld wrestling family.

It was not foreseeable at the end of June that Ben Haeffner would even be able to take part in the German Junior Championships. He broke a finger on his left hand and had to fear for participation until the very end.
–
At the championships Haeffner was only defeated by the later German junior champion Richard Schröder from Luckenwalde. The man from Krefeld was able to clearly win three fights and was rated “Technically superior”.

Ben Haeffner’s success is somewhat drowned in the jubilation for Olympic champion Aline Rotter-Focken. But the 19-year-old is happy for the woman from Krefeld: “Of course we all shared the excitement for Aline in front of the TV sets and we were so happy for her that she was able to crown her career with the gold medal. We are extremely proud that it comes from our club. “

The fact that KSV Germania is a really family club despite its 350 members and that those responsible for its club members are also committed beyond sport is one of the reasons why Ben Haeffner stuck with wrestling. “Since my father played this sport, I of course quickly had points of contact. But I also tried other sports like soccer and then decided to wrestle. This club is like a family and I also love to play a sport that not everyone does. Wrestling is also incredibly interesting. “

But no gain without diligence: Ben Haeffner stands in the hall six times a week and trains two to three hours per unit. Without this effort, this success would not have been possible.
