Belt with explosives put into cashier in assault was a hoax: BBVA

The belt with alleged explosives that criminals placed a female chief of ATMs to rob a branch of BBVA Mexico in the mayor’s office Gustavo A. Madero May 29 was a hoax, the financial institution said.

The bank said that, through a video call, the criminals were giving him directions to extract the money from the bank vault, after the artifact was placed. The money that was in the branch was destined to recharge ATMs.

According to reports, with this operation the criminals stole 14 million pesos from the branch.

“As is its custom, BBVA Mexico will collaborate with the authorities in everything they require to clarify this incident,” the institution said.
