Texas Tech volleyball secured a thrilling five-set victory (3-2) over UC San Diego Saturday afternoon at the Lumberjack Classic, fueled by a career-best performance from junior outside hitter Ashlyn bellamy. Bellamy‘s 17 kills led the Red Raiders too a 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-7 win at the Rolle Activity Center in Flagstaff, Arizona.
This victory marks Bellamy’s second time breaking her personal kill record during her frist season with Texas Tech, previously achieving 13 kills against Kent State at the Florida Atlantic Invitational. the Red Raiders’ win over the Tritons, who boast a balanced offensive attack with four players recording double-digit kills, demonstrates Tech’s resilience and ability to close out matches. The team finished the Lumberjack Classic with a 2-1 record and will now return to Lubbock to host the Red Raider Classic at the United Supermarkets Arena Friday and Saturday.
Bellamy’s pivotal kills in the decisive fifth set propelled Tech to a 15-7 victory, sealing the match. UC San Diego challenged the Red Raiders, claiming the second and fourth sets with narrow margins of 25-23 and 25-21, respectively.
Texas Tech dominated the first set with 15 team kills, establishing a 25-16 win and a nine-point lead – the largest advantage held by either team throughout the match. Despite a strong defensive showing from the Tritons in the third set, forcing seven attack errors from Tech, the Red Raiders responded with a 25-20 victory.
