‘Belgium puts the whole of the Netherlands on code orange’ – De Dagaily Standaard

Yesterday, the Netherlands had put the province of Antwerp on code orange, to the dissatisfaction of many holidaymakers, of course. After all, as people from that province to The Netherlands they must be quarantined for two weeks. Not recommended if you go on holiday from Belgium to the Netherlands. But today Belgium has decided to suddenly label the whole of the Netherlands as ‘orange’.

Until recently, we were still green, so a relatively ‘safe’ holiday destination for the Belgians. But in 24 hours, the Belgians have completely changed their mind. Also in the Netherlands it is not as safe as people thought.

The federal government of Belgium has done this to send a signal. Indeed, one can and may go on holiday abroad. But there are of course risks associated with a holiday abroad. In this way, the Belgian government hopes to keep its inhabitants a little alert.

“People see that travel to the Netherlands is possible, but that there are conditions attached to it”

Let’s just hope that the Belgians don’t go to Dutch bars en masse, like the Belgians did that in Zeeland at the beginning of the corona crisis.

Yet it is remarkable that we have been labeled from ‘green’ directly to ‘orange’. Couldn’t the federal government have put us on “yellow”? Or would the message not have been effective enough?
