Belgium has the highest contamination level in Europe

Belgium has the highest corona infection rate in Europe, with 1,390.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past two weeks. Only the Czech Republic preceded our country so far, but we have also passed that country. This has not escaped the notice of the international press.

Those figures come from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. The Czech Republic currently has 1,379.8 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in two weeks. Luxembourg (760.4), Slovenia (732.8) and the Netherlands (694.1) follow a long distance. The institute collects data not only from the 27 countries of the European Union, but also from the other countries that are part of the European Economic Area, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, as well as the United Kingdom.

The number of deaths attributed to covid-19 is currently the highest in the Czech Republic, with 12.3 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in two weeks. In Belgium, this figure is currently the second highest in Europe, with 5.8 deaths.

‘Coronaramp’

Those bad grades don’t stay under the radar. The American news channel CNN writes that our country is ‘on the verge of a corona disaster’, and repeats the report that the maximum capacity for intensive care in our country will be reached in two weeks with unchanged figures. The possibility of a second lockdown and the new measures, the curfew, the closure of the catering industry and mandatory teleworking are also described.

The British Public Broadcaster BBC writes about the possible overload of our hospitals. The demand for infected doctors without symptoms to continue working is receiving due attention. As well as the possibility of a second lockdown in our country, for fear that the hospitals will not be able to cope with the influx.

The French newspaper The world writes about the disagreement between the different policy levels, and the criticism of the De Croo government’s approach.
