Belgians eat an average of 158 grams of red meat per day, half of which is processed: how (un)healthy is that really? | To eat

“Red meat is unhealthy”, it sounds everywhere in nutritional advice. Nevertheless, according to the most recent figures from Statbel from 2021, Belgians eat an average of 154 grams of red meat per day. A new study by BV-OECO shows that one fifth of Belgians want to cut down. “People who choose red meat more often do indeed have more chronic diseases such as cancer than people who eat a lot of chicken,” says bio-engineer Stefaan de Smet.
