Belgian webshop accidentally unveils remake Alone in the Dark – Gaming – News

A Belgian webshop has unintentionally put a remake of Alone in the Dark online. According to boxart on the page, the game will in any case be released on the PlayStation 5. The story was written by the man behind horror games SOMA and Amnesia.

The text on the product page, which is still can be viewed via the Wayback Machine, announces that players can choose from two different characters: Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood. The game features puzzles, battles with monsters and the Derceto Manor, known from the first game. The lyrics describe the new game as a “true love letter to the 90s horror classic.” The game is set in the 1920s in the southern part of the US.

Alone in the Dark originally came out in 1992 and is seen as the game that popularized various horrogame elements. For example, the game has a fixed camera in tank controls, two elements that the much-loved Resident Evil also exploited in 1996. Screenshots show that fixed perspective apparently no longer used. Instead, there is a camera that looks over the shoulder.

Further details about the game may be a bit iffy. The platforms mentioned are the PlayStation 5, ‘PlayStation’, Xbox 360 and Xbox Series, in addition to Windows. The PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series and Windows are believable enough, but the Xbox 360 is questionable. The release date, December 31, 2023, also seems to be a placeholder. The quoted price is 59.95 euros.

THQ Nordic will hold an online presentation tonight at 9 p.m. local time, including new games to be announced. It is obvious that more will be revealed about this new horror game at that time.
