Belgian trades petrol for hybrid car | Car

Hybrid cars are increasingly popular. In the first ten months of the year, more than 35,000 cars combining a combustion engine with an electric drive were registered. This is evident from figures from the car federation Febiac about which De Tijd reports. The number is already a third higher than in the whole of 2019.

The number of hybrid cars has increased in recent months in particular. In October this concerned 4,861 petrol-powered hybrids and 619 diesel hybrids. according to the newspaper, this is the highest number ever in our country. Hybrid sales accounted for 14.2 percent of car sales, which is a record.

The growth is not at the expense of diesel cars, but of cars with petrol engines. The upward trend also goes against the downward trend overall. After 2019, a record year with 550,000 cars sold, sales this year fell 23 percent due to the corona crisis and associated garage closures.

Ninety percent of plug-in hybrids are registered by companies, the car dealership association Traxio notes.

The sale of pure electric cars is also on the rise. In October this was a record 1,877 vehicles.
