Beijing Military Parade: 80,000 Pigeons Escape, Cause Chaos

Beijing Military Parade disrupted as “Peace Doves” Flee, many lost or Injured

Beijing – A planned display of “peace doves” during a military parade in Beijing on September 3rd resulted in chaos as numerous birds escaped, became lost, suffered injuries, and experienced heatstroke, according to reports and citizen accounts circulating online. Several individuals have taken to social media to document rescuing disoriented pigeons, raising questions about the welfare of the birds used in the event.

The incident occurred during the parade, a large-scale event intended to showcase national strength. Rather, the release of the doves became a scene of distress, with many birds unable to navigate back to their handlers.Witnesses reported pigeons falling into water and appearing unable to fly, prompting intervention from bystanders. The event has sparked concern among pigeon breeders, who allege a pattern of birds disappearing after official collection following similar events, with their ultimate fate unknown.

“Simple E” shared a video online showing her rescuing a pigeon that had fallen into the water in Shichahai, Beijing. Another user, “uncle born in the 1980s,” posted that they had found a dove unable to return home, seeking its owner. “Pu Dou’s Old Place Pig blood” also released a video detailing the rescue of a pigeon that fell into the water and was unable to fly back.

Social media user @yingtan04410735 shared multiple images and videos documenting the aftermath, including injured birds and citizens providing assistance.According to an informed pigeon breeder, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) frequently incorporates a “pigeon release” element into large-scale events, but many birds are subsequently lost after being collected by officials.

The incident raises ethical questions regarding the use of live animals in staged displays and the duty for their wellbeing. The fate of the lost and injured doves remains uncertain.
