The Chinese military said that begins patrolling the Taiwan Strait region, Reuters reported.

The patrol was set up because of serious mistakes in the actions and statements of “certain countries” concerning the Taiwan issue and because of the activity of forces that support independence in Taipei.

China can block Taiwan’s main ports and airports to cut off the island’s main links with the outside world, warned the Ministry of Defense of the territory – at a time when tensions between Beijing and Taipei are highest for years, AFP reported. China is increasingly threatening to use force against Taiwan by conducting military exercises and sending fighter jets near the island.

In early October, Beijing sent 149 military aircraft southwest of Taiwan in strike force formations, forcing Taiwan to alert its combat aircraft and activate its anti-aircraft systems.
