Beginning of the restructuring of the Lariboisière hospital with the opening of the “Nouveau Morax” building

-The Lariboisière hospital (Paris Xe) opened the “Nouveau Morax” building, the first step in the completion of the hospital’s restructuring and modernization project, the Assistance publique-hospitals de Paris (AP-HP) announced on December 11 in a press release.-

With this “New Lariboisière” project, for which it is investing more than 300 million euros, the institution “wishes to rebalance and modernize the offer of hospital-university care for the benefit of Parisians and Ile-de-France residents north of the capital”, she recalls.

The first phase of the project includes the reconstruction of the Morax building (for technical and tertiary purposes) which opened on 23 November.

It will subsequently integrate the construction of the “Nouveau Lariboisière” building to the north-east of the site (as well as the renovation of the first two combs). The start of work is scheduled for 2020 and the opening of the building in 2023.

The “Nouveau Morax” building thus accommodates over 6 floors and more than 5,000 m²:

  • the anatomy and pathological cytology department
  • the biological resources center
  • the radiation protection and medical physics department
  • the biostatistics and medical information service
  • the power supply and emergency power plant for the entire hospital
  • investment and maintenance management including technical services and biomedical and hotel equipment service
  • the information systems department
  • tertiary spaces for different departments and directions.

On the ground floor “will be located a health center open to the city for an offer of unscheduled care”.

The teams are gradually moving into the “New Morax” between the end of November 2020 and January 2021, “thus making it possible to free the buildings that must be demolished to allow the construction of the New Lariboisière building”, explains the AP-HP.

The facade of the building is presented “as a smooth wall coated with aluminum sheets framing windows on glazed spandrels”, describes the CHU Ile-de-France. “Stretched and unitary on rue de Maubeuge, it will be one of the first visions out of the Gare du Nord.”

For the “New Lariboisière”, the AP-HP chose in 2016 the prime contractors Brunet Saunier Architecture and Bernard Desmoulin Architecte. The architectural project “offers a hospital open to the city”.

The medical project aims to make it “a benchmark establishment whose medical and surgical activities are organized around 3 axes”, the musculoskeletal system, neurosciences, acute pathologies and emergencies, underlines the AP-HP. The site will be equipped with “a vast outpatient complex made up of an outpatient surgery unit, outpatient medicine units and consultation platforms”.

As part of this orientation, the AP-HP has planned “a reduction in traditional hospitalization capacities by 20% and an increase in day places by 23%”, while the capacity of the maternity and emergency rooms must be increased. enlarged, she said in the presentation of the project.

It is also planned that the western fringe of the site will be sold for the construction of residential buildings, also making it possible to contribute to the financing of the operation.

The future Lariboisière hospital in figures:

  • 489 beds in the “Nouveau Lariboisière” building
  • 65 day spots
  • 90% single rooms
  • an emergency reception capacity of more than 100,000 people per year
  • 17 operating theaters
  • 3 MRI and 2 scanners
  • 1 maternity unit sized for 3,200 deliveries per year Areas: 46,800 m² for the “Nouveau Lariboisière” building, 5,200 m² for the “Nouveau Morax” building and 7,200 m² for the North-East combs.
