After the outbreak of the Ukraine war, the organizers of the third Grand Slam tournament of the year decided to exclude players from Russia and Belarus from the tournament. This affects, for example, the co-favorites Daniil Medvedev and Andrei Rublev as well as Arina Sabalenka. On the tennis tour, players are allowed to start under a neutral flag, but not in Wimbledon.

The 20-time Grand Slam winner is currently still in 47th place in the ranking, has a round of 16 to defend in Paris, the tournament victory in Halle and a quarter-final on the “Holy Lawn”. But Federer will not return to the tennis circuit until autumn at the earliest. Serena Williams, who is currently 267th in the WTA ranking, faces the same fate.
