Because of too much crime: “Goodbye Germany” star Oksana leaves LA

TV emigrant Oksana Kolenitchenko has moved from Los Angeles to Las Vegas with her family. In an interview with BUNTE.de, she revealed that, in addition to the high prices in LA, this had something to do with increasing crime.

Four years ago, ex-DSDS candidate Oksana Kolenitchenko, her husband Daniel and their two children Milan and Arielle packed their bags and turned their backs on Germany. The family of four moved to Los Angeles. Always there: the cameras from ” Goodbye Germany “. In their new adopted country, Oksana and Daniel have opened a nightclub. Apparently, the Kolenichenkos no longer felt really at home in Los Angeles. So Oksana and her husband decided to move again, this time to Las Vegas. In the BUNTE.de interview, Oksana now reveals how this decision came about and what challenges they are still struggling with.

Oksana Kolenitchenko: “Closed with Los Angeles in our hearts”

Moving with kith and kin isn’t exactly easy, and for Oksana and her husband, too, the new start in the gambler’s city meant one thing above all: stress. So why did the two choose to do this? At first it was clear to them that their future did not lie in LA. “During the pandemic, we had to ask ourselves: Do we want to stay in Los Angeles? Do we want to accept how the city has changed? The crime rate. It’s really very different from the city we moved to four years ago So in our hearts we were kind of done with Los Angeles and needed a change of scenery. […] During the pandemic, I think we all realized what is really important to us in life. And for us it’s the safety of our children and that we have a little more space for us as a family,” explains Oksana. LA has not only become too unsafe for her and her family, but also too expensive. The decision that it should be Las instead Vegas was soon decided, which is where Oksana and Daniel would have been drawn to work anyway: “The plan was to expand again at some point, to open another shop in Las Vegas. So we said we’ll just do it now and go to Las Vegas.”

The move “tear the family apart”

Another point that spoke for Las Vegas? From there you can be back in Los Angeles in just 45 minutes. Because their club there is still going strong and Daniel still has to fly back to LA very regularly to check on things. But that is also a problem. “It’s the case that Daniel flies over every weekend, which of course isn’t ideal. You have to say it quite clearly. It tears the family apart,” says Oksana. In the long run, she and Daniel hope that their management team can keep the club running without them – but that remains a mere hope for now. “But there are a lot of people who commute and we don’t want to complain. We have a little more time together during the week for that. You always have to see the positive side,” says the 34-year-old optimistically.

Oksana Kolenitchenko: “In retrospect, I think it was crazy”

In the meantime, Oksana and Daniel have settled in well in their new hometown and the children have also gotten used to the new school and the new surroundings. However, it was not foreseeable from the start that the move would be a complete success. “That was so crazy. In retrospect, I wonder how I could be so crazy,” Oksana thinks today about her departure to Las Vegas. As you can see in “Goodbye Germany”, the Kolenitchenkos came to Las Vegas without having a permanent home in mind: “That was trust in God. Now, looking back, I think it was crazy. But after that everything went really well . Our house ended up winning the lottery. That means we were in the right place at the right time. My husband always said I was completely crazy. He always said, ‘We can’t move to Las Vegas and have no house.’ And then I said, ‘It will come. I affirm this house. The house will come to us.'”
