This year, too, there will be no spring dome on Hamburg’s Heiligengeistfeld. The economic authority announced this on Tuesday.
“Corona requires responsible decisions, even if they are painful,” said Economic Senator Michael Westhagemann (non-party). It is still not the time for events with many thousands of people. “That is why we are forced to cancel the Spring Dome after the port birthday.” It is not foreseeable that the number of infections will develop so positively by the beginning of March that a cathedral could take place, said Westhagemann. “And delaying the decision would only mean additional costs and effort for the showmen involved.”
In spring 2020, the spring dome was one of the first major events in Hamburg that had to be canceled due to the corona. The Hamburg Cathedral is one of the largest folk festivals in northern Germany. In 2019 around two and a half million people visited the Spring Cathedral. The festival usually takes place from the end of March to the end of April.
