NEW YORK – Four people were injured after the floor of a Bronx living room suddenly collapsed into the basement Sunday, authorities said.
Video from the scene at New Klaman Hair Braiding shows a large cabinet and other debris sunk in what the Building Department says was a 15-by-15-foot partial collapse of the building’s first floor, located in the 1300 block of Prospect Avenue. .
Authorities say four workers were injured, but the injuries were minor.
“The victims, who were in the hairdresser working at the time, actually heard some strange noises that did not seem normal to them. They saw some movement, displacement of the floor, so they ran out the front door just before the floor collapsed under their feet, “said FDNY Battalion Chief James Fleming. “They came out just in time.”
The rest of the building does not appear to be in danger, according to DOB spokesman Andrew Rudansky. He said the property owner has been issued a ticket for failing to maintain the building.
