Beach volleyball players Brailko and Namike in Slovenia reach the quarter-finals of the one-star stage of the World Tour / Article / LSM.lv

Latvian beach volleyball players Varvara Brailko and Anete Namiķe reached the quarter-finals of the one-star stage of the World Tour on Friday in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.

The Latvian duo was placed with the 12th number in the main tournament and the group tournament games were held in subgroup D.

In the first game, Brailko / Namik won the Cypriot Zoya Constantopolis / Manolin Constantine 2-1 (21:17, 22:24, 15:10), who were awarded the fifth number.

In the second duel with Latvians 2-0 (21:18, 21:19) beat Agat Cukarelli / Julia Toti from Italy, who were awarded the fourth number.

With two successes, Brailko / Namiķe won first place in subgroup D and won the quarterfinals. The second round games as well as the quarterfinals will be played on Saturday. Semi-finals and finals are expected on Sunday.

Marta Ozoliņa and Luīze Skrastiņa also participated in the qualification tournament. The athletes, who were awarded the seventh number in the qualifying tournament, overcame the first round, but the step from the main tournament with 0-2 (18:21, 10:21) acknowledged the superiority of the Hungarian duo Dorothea Sabo / Pan Gjori. The Hungarians were awarded the second number in the qualifying tournament.

The tournament also takes place in the men’s competition, but none of the Latvian duets start in it.

The last games on the World Tour were played in March before the pandemic caused by Covid-19 hit the world. Until now, representatives of Latvian beach volleyball have played in the home championship “ERGO Open 2020”.
