Be careful, Trump Prepares ‘Final Madness’ for China

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President of the United States (US) Donald Trump is said to be preparing to show force again in China before relinquishing his post as number one in Uncle Sam’s country in January 2021.

In early November, the media Bloomberg and Axios reports that Trump is considering tough sanctions and an aggressive attack on Xi Jinping’s country to mark the end of his presidency.

According to the report, Trump is likely to attack China as additional sanctions on party offices and institutions involved in China’s crackdown in Hong Kong.

Do not miss the sanctions against party officials and institutions involved in the persecution of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang. Trump will also combat illegal fishing and provide directions to protect US technology companies from Chinese exploitation.

This is a concern Global Times, media an arm of the Chinese Communist Party. Even in the report, the media hinted that Trump was likely to unleash the “final madness” for Beijing.

China’s policy shift is the Trump administration’s greatest ‘diplomatic legacy’, and they want to prevent a rebound in Chinese policy after they leave office,” the editorial said. Business Insider, Friday (20/11/2020).

The state media added that Trump was likely trying to make a statement so he could attack Biden for being weak against China. Moreover, there are indications that Trump will run again in 2024.

“The new administration will continue to live in the shadow of ‘Trumpism.’ Even if Biden makes technical adjustments to his Chinese policies, Republicans can also criticize ‘weakness’ for China and cause problems in the 2022 midterm elections and the 2024 presidential election,” he continued.

In a separate article, Global Times wrote that Trump could also sanction China over the country’s mission to control the South China Sea (SCS) and Taiwan.

“Unless Beijing turns around and becomes a responsible player on the global stage, future US presidents will feel politically suicidal to reverse President Trump’s historic actions,” said John Ullyot, spokesman for the National Security Council.

Trump has imposed several new sanctions on Chinese companies since his defeat in the November 3 general election yesterday.

On Thursday (11/19/2020), Trump signed an executive order prohibiting US companies from investing in 31 Chinese companies that were recently sanctioned over their relationship with the People’s Liberation Army.

Trump has refused to recognize the election, and has repeatedly made allegations of voter fraud without providing evidence. His campaign has filed several lawsuits in several states for a recount, despite Trump’s many demands that authorities have rejected.
