BCA Bosses Call the Majority of Shopee Cs Still ‘Selling’ Imported Products

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Director PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) Jahja Setiaatmadja has its own assessment of the micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) sector in the country. According to Jahja, MSMEs in Indonesia are still unable to compete, making it difficult for them to enter the leading e-commerce platforms.

Thus said Jahja when he was the speaker of the High Impact Seminar and Kick Off Program of BI at GerNas Proud to be Made in Indonesia with the theme “Creating MSMEs as New Strengths for the National Economy: Synergy of the MSME Transformation Program to Enter the Digital Ecosystem” virtually, Sunday (30/8/2020) .

“Shopee, Tokopedia, and most of them still sell imported products. Our MSMEs don’t have super apps that can place local products. This needs to be emphasized, if we ask Indonesian products to develop,” he said.

Jahja appreciated the steps of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia (BI) in supporting MSMEs. For example, BI has released the Indonesian Standard Quick Response Code (QRIS) to facilitate the payment system.

However, there is another thing that is no less important, namely the market in the e-commerce platform.

“If there is a traditional market, we need an e-commerce platform market that can (reach) nationally,” said Jahja while emphasizing the importance of cooperation with the regions.

Furthermore, he said, the e-commerce platform was expected to be able to accommodate all MSMEs who wanted to market their products.
