BCA Boss Reveals the Bank’s Threat of Being Left by the Customer

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Director of PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA), Jahja Setiaatmadja, said that digitalization of banking was a must during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is because the limited space and mobility of people requires that banking activities be carried out from home.

This was conveyed by Jahja in a webinar entitled Traditional Banks VS Challenger Bank in The Era of The New Normal, Tuesday (29/9/2020).

Jahja said, initially, BCA, which has long been involved in the traditional banking business, faced challenges to transform to digital.

“But whether we want it or not, like it or not, we have to do that, because otherwise our digital will also be useless,” said Jahja.

However, he said, the era of digitalization of banking or open banking also faced new problems such as system and service updates that would continue to follow developments.

“As a bank there will always be problems because we have to continue to upgrade the system. There is a risk of internal and external disruption, including customer difficulties in understanding system changes,” he explained.

Meanwhile, in the new normal era, Jahja said there was a change in behavior and economic uncertainty. Therefore, banks must also adjust to these changes. For example, due to health protocol considerations, BCA also conducts exhibition activities online rather than physically.

“We can’t sell things with Covid, we can finally create a virtual expo where customers can explore. In the past, the expo had to be physical. This is one of the breakthroughs,” said Jahja.
