Gaza Evacuation Notices Riddled with Conflicting Information

Confusion looms for civilians in Gaza as inconsistencies mar the latest evacuation directives issued by the Israeli military, potentially endangering those who rely on them.

Inconsistencies Noted in Evacuation Zones

**Benedict Garman**, a BBC Verify senior journalist, reports that a new notice from the Israeli military instructs residents to evacuate additional areas within Gaza City. The IDF divides Gaza into numbered blocks; those under evacuation orders are shaded red.

These warnings are often a precursor to military action, with residents advised to leave for their “safety” and to “refrain from returning.”

Discrepancies Highlighted in Latest Notice

According to **Garman**, the latest notice exemplifies the existing issues. While the text specifies five blocks in Gaza City, including previously unalerted blocks 602 and 699, the official online IDF map—accessible via QR codes—does not shade them red.

Conversely, blocks 603 and 611, though not marked red in the recent notice, were previously warned at the end of June and remain red on the IDF’s official online map, implying continued danger.

The conflicting information could leave civilians unaware of “dangerous combat zones.”

Response from IDF Awaited

The BBC has contacted the IDF for clarification on these inconsistencies and will provide updates as they become available. As of July 3, 2025, over 1.7 million people, which is more than 70% of Gaza’s population, have been forcibly displaced since October 2023, according to the United Nations OCHA.
