Carapaz was half a minute ahead of Roglič before today’s duel in the newly included hill in the Vuelta itinerary. At the end of the 164 km long stage, several attacks took place, but it was published by Roglič, the second man of the recent Tour de France.

He crossed the finish line with 13 seconds for good, in addition he received a bonus of ten seconds and moved from fourth place to the second. Carapaz’s lead is suddenly half. Ir Dan Martin finished third and is third overall. The distance to Carapze is almost half a minute.

Roglič received his second laurel in this year’s 75th Vuelta, winning the first in the introductory hilly stage. “The start was quite boring and slow, but then the pace started to rise. I rode the last hill for the first time in my life, I only knew the profile. I always like to win, so if there is a chance, I go for it. Fortunately my legs went,” said Roglič.

Tom Dumoulin has to continue the battle for the red jersey without an important assistant in the Jumbo-Visma team. The Dutch cyclist decided not to continue due to fatigue.

Jan Hirt reached the finish line in 57th place with a loss of almost 14 minutes, Zdeněk Štybar had a deficit of over 26 minutes. After another portion of the hills, the peloton awaits a flat stage on Thursday.
