Battered AZ during ‘Super January’: ‘It’s more serious than we thought’

AZ cannot have access to it in ‘Super January’ Dani de Wit in Jonas Svensson. The pair had been out for a while and a return in the coming weeks is not in line with expectations.

Svensson injured his lower leg at the end of November and had known for a while that the top matches in January would come too early for him. “I hope I can be back on the field in February or March,” the Norwegian right back said NH News. “I have to be patient. When I get back on the field, I have to play as I always do and not be afraid.”

The fact that De Wit has to pass up the coming games is a bigger disappointment for AZ. “At first it seemed to be okay, but when we had an MRI made afterwards, it turned out that it was more serious”, the attacking midfielder said. “It is difficult to say when I will be able to play again, but there is a very good chance that it will not work again this month.”

AZ starts the month of January with an away game at PEC Zwolle and will meet PSV in Eindhoven midweek. In addition, there are also two showdowns with Ajax on the program: once for the cup and once for the competition.
