At 21:55 The plane carrying a new shipment of anti-coronavirus vaccines arrived at the presidential breakwater at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport.
This is a batch of 253,440 AstraZeneca doses, donated by the government of Spain in addition to 6,896 doses of Coronavac, a donation from Colombia, reported correspondent Gladys Villalba.
The Astrazeneca doses will be used to complete the inoculation scheme of the people who received this vaccine as their first immunization. While the Coronavac will be used to continue with the vaccination program in general.
The Ministry of Health recalls that the Astrazeneca platform is intended for the population aged 50 years and over, which will be vaccinated with the second dose, once the vaccines are distributed by the Expanded Program of Immunizations to the different health regions. The Coronavac, from the Sinovac Laboratory, on the other hand, is approved for the general population, over 18 years of age, whose application will be for the first and second doses.
Authorities such as the Minister of Health, Julio Borba, who thanked both countries for this cooperation with Paraguay, which he considered very important to continue with the notional vaccination plan. He added that this type of gesture strengthens the ties between these countries and ours.
To its turn, Alonso losada, Chargé d’affaires of the Colombian Embassy, argued: “Today a common enemy calls us to draw one of the most significant virtues: Solidarity … solidarity between brothers, between human beings. It is a reality that a vaccinated person can take care of a family, a protected family can ensure the prosperity and future of a nation. It is a pleasure for me to deliver this batch of vaccines, which will allow us to continue in this battle that does not give truce ”.
Was also Javier Hernandez, Ambassador of Spain, who explained that this batch is part of a promise made, that once Spain had reached 50% of the vaccinated population, it would begin to transfer vaccine doses from those available to Spain to the Ibero-American countries, That milestone has already been accomplished and that promise is being made in Paraguay tonight. The fight against the coronavirus belongs to all of humanity. None of us will be really safe, as long as we are not all safe together. ” On the occasion he also announced that Spain decided to make a second donation package that will also include Paraguay, which will arrive in two or three more weeks. “There will be 305,280 additional doses, which are already awarded to Paraguay,” he said.
It should be remembered that, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Euclides Acevedo, some 100,000 units of Moderna will arrive in the coming weeks, which are part of the 400,000 doses donated by Qatar.
Upon the arrival of these lots, Acevedo said: “On behalf of President Abdo, we thank the Kingdom of Spain, the Republic of Colombia, the European Union and, as a gesture of retribution, the respect, solidarity and firm continuity to our friends of the Ministry of Health”.
This Thursday the Ministry of Health canceled the call for the application of second doses of the Moderna vaccine as it was out of supply. The arrival of a new batch is awaited to continue with the vaccination.
