The Stade de Reims was eliminated this Saturday from the Coupe de France, at home, by a brave team from Bastia (L2). Led at the break (0-1), the Bastiais equalized and won on penalties (5-3).

In a stadium not quite 100% filled with Reims supporters, since around thirty Bastiais had managed to settle in the stands despite the prefectural decree prohibiting their presence, the locals lit the first fuse with a strike from Hugo Ekitike diverted for a corner by Johny Placide (12th). Former Rémois, the Bastia goalkeeper then defeated Cadjute who had attempted a heavy shot from a tight angle (23rd).

Despite a tight match and the Bastiais rather disciplined defensively, Reims managed to open the scoring with the inevitable Ekitike, their top scorer, who took advantage of a good cross from Mitchell Van Bergen to deceive Placide, so far impeccable (37th ). Ekitike, who has already scored eight goals in Ligue 1, also signed his first achievement in the Coupe de France. The Bastiais did not go far from equalizing just before the break. Without an incredible headline from Yehvann Diouf, Benjamin Santelli’s overpowering strike would have shaken the Reims nets.

Gravillon misses his shot on goal
The equalizer was not far either on Talal’s cross for Schur’s header which failed to fit (62nd). It finally came from a perfect shift from captain Christophe Vincent for Sébastien Salles-Monge who placed an unstoppable shot from the entrance to the surface (72nd, 1-1).

This equalization was rather logical, as the Corsicans had been pushing for a while, while Reims no longer offered anything. Until this strike from Adeline which grazed the post (84th) to the great despair of the public of Delaune who gave voice to help his players regain the advantage. Magri responded a few minutes later seeing his shot stopped by Diouf (88th). But the two teams finally had to decide on penalties.

On the Bastia side, Taoui, Bocognano, Vincent, Magri and Santelli managed their shots on goal. On the Remo side, Ekitike, Hornby and Mbuku as well. But Gravillon put his own above Placide’s goal.
